2022 December Local Elections - steering and priority campaign results

Ballots were sent out on Tuesday Dec 13, 2022 and remained open until 11:59pm Saturday, Dec 17. 2294 members were sent a ballot, with 266 casting a vote. The December ballot contained our elections for the local 2022 steering committee and five considerations for chapter priority campaign status.

Metro DC 2022 Steering Committee Election (Question 1)

There are nine candidates competing for eight seats. The were 266 voters and 244 valid votes, with 22 empty votes.

The results are as follows (candidates with an * indicate winner):

  • Aparna R: 203*
  • Bakari Wilkins: 196*
  • Hayden G: 189*
  • Imara D. Crooms: 183*
  • Dieter L. M: 181*
  • Carl R: 175*
  • Philip B: 174*
  • Howard Daniels: 76

Winners are Aparna R, Bakari Wilkins, Carl R, Dieter L. M, Hayden G, Imara Crooms, Kareem E and Philip B. Steering candidate diversity requirements were satisfied.

Question 2: Should Montgomery County Rent Stabilization be a priority campaign?

The number of voters is 266 and there are 226 valid votes, with 40 empty votes.

Yes - 207 (91.6%)
No - 19 (8.4%)

Question 3: Should Stomp Out Slumlords be a priority campaign?

The number of voters is 266 and there are 249 valid votes, with 17 empty votes.

Yes - 236 (94.8%)
No - 13 (5.2%)

Question 4: Should WePower DC be a priority campaign?

The number of voters is 266 and there are 214 valid votes, with 52 empty votes.

Yes - 166 (77.6%)
No - 48 (22.4%)

Question 5: Should Defund MPD be a priority campaign?

The number of voters is 266 and there are 240 valid votes, with 26 empty votes.

Yes - 190 (79.2%)
No - 50 (20.8%)

Question 6: Should Labor be a priority campaign?

The number of voters is 266 and there are 238 valid votes, with 19 empty votes.

Yes - 238 (96.4%)
No - 9 (3.6%)

Additional Notes

There were no reported issues in casting ballot votes, although some voters reached out directly to receive a ballot. These voters were provided a direct ballot link, and the original email ballot sent to them was voided to ensure no double votes.
