Statement from Stu K - IN FAVOR - regarding Resolution PCR5: Select Defund MPD as a Priority Campaign
I am voting in favor of the Defund MPD priority proposal to become a priority campaign for our chapter. In 2020, the Defund MPD working group successfully engaged chapter members who—in the wake of the George Floyd anti-racist protests—became extremely interested in starting a campaign to defund the police, and reinvest in true community safety and care measures. Through that work, Defund MPD members have built invaluable coalition relationships and have contributed meaningfully (through research, organizing rallies, and mobilizing chapter members) to the broader Defund MPD Coalition in D.C. This campaign will not be won quickly, and I think it’s important to choose Defund MPD as a priority to support this work in the chapter.
