Member Statements on Resolution to Appoint Carl R to the NPC

Statement IN FAVOR by Ben D

Carl is in fact a member of Metro DC DSA. And he’s a dawg and a half.

Statement IN FAVOR by Emily N

Comrades, I strongly encourage you to vote to endorse Carl in his run for National Political Committee. While this resolution is just confirming that Carl is a member in good standing and an active part of Metro DC DSA, I want to take this opportunity to speak to why I am so glad Carl is running for NPC this year.

In my years in DSA, Carl has been a constant support - he was one of the people I credit with getting me to join DSA in the first place, and with being the person to encourage me to get more involved in the chapter through electoral canvassing and then taking leadership in the Socialist Feminist Section. He was one of the people I turned to when I was considering running for Steering, and I was grateful to serve with him on the Committee last year.

Carl has a vision for a national organization that builds towards the mass, multiracial, working class movement that this moment needs. He’s thoughtful and strategic, and I trust that as a national leader he will help build our organization toward a national mass party that reflects the actual will of the people.

I’m incredibly grateful to call Carl a comrade and friend, and I hope you join me in supporting his run for NPC.

Statement IN FAVOR by Gary Z

Asking members to vote yes on this resolution to affirm Carl’s nomination to the DSA National Political Committee elections. To be clear, this vote is an affirmation that the member in question (Carl) is an active and committed member of DSA. Elected delegates at the national DSA convention will have the opportunity to vote on NPC candidates — voting for this resolution does not bind local delegates to vote for Carl.

As a lead writer and editor for our chapter’s publications working group, I can confirm Carl has been an active and engaged member of our chapter for years — especially in helping organize our chapter’s electoral engagement and strategy. Carl was on the steering committee of the chapter for sometime, and did an excellent job in keeping the core of the chapter organized and connected to ongoing chapter life. I also served with Carl on the Steering Committee last year, where I was frequently in opposition to votes from him and others. Regardless, I saw closely that Carl respects process, is open to deliberation, and always willing to maintain channels of communication to identify and achieve consensus; all important qualities for someone to serve on the NPC.

He and I have disagreed frequently on strategy, tactics and horizon of the DSA. Regardless I’ve trusted his leadership, responsiveness and hands-on approach to organizing. Regardless of how our members and national delegates end up voting, Carl definitely has the experience to be an elected national leader of this organization. I wish him luck on his candidacy.

Statement IN FAVOR by Carl R

I am writing to ask my comrades to vote FOR this resolution. It is not an endorsement of me; it is not an endorsement of my politics; it is simply an affirmation that I have put in the work in a comradely fashion.

I have spent six years of my life giving my free time to this chapter. I have tried incredibly hard - and failed at times, I’m sure - to make sure every side gets a fair hearing, especially when I personally disagree. And I have been incredibly active. For the past three years I have dedicated ten hours a week - and sometimes much more - to DSA. I have been a top ten door knocker in our electoral campaigns in multiple years, going back to 2020. Years of my life have been devoted to this chapter.

I am humbly asking you to vote FOR this resolution.

Statement IN FAVOR by Masa O.

I believe Carl R has put the time and effort into this chapter to deserve its nomination to NPC.

Statement IN FAVOR by Tyler S

My name is Tyler S., and I am proud to support my good friend and comrade Carl R. for NPC. Carl is one of the most committed socialists I’ve ever met, has a library of knowledge, and the cool head and steady hand needed to confront the fascist regime.

When I first came to DC I was unsure of where I was going to stay and Carl not only gave me his couch to sleep on (no questions asked) but helped me move into the apartment above. I say that because there is no length to which he will not go for a comrade and for this organization.

Under Carl’s leadership as chair our chapter experienced a series of victories and growth that we must again aspire to as a chapter. There is no one in this organization who I’d trust more to guide us toward becoming a mass party.
